Whatever it is, the answer is almost always the same. You need a combination of personal and business practices that elevate your business and propel you forward. Among other things, you need

- A balanced personal life

- A solid work ethic

- Good processes and procedures

- A commitment to excellence

- A process for defining and measuring your goals

- A commitment to perpetual education

- Good tools (equipment and software)

- Good people (administrative, technical, sales, and marketing)

- Good advisors, friends, and associates

- and of course good financial habits, time to recharge your batteries, good marketing materials, good alliances, good vendors, and many more things we don't always have time to work on. It can be overwhelming!

Remember: You can't focus on everything at once. Pick a few things and work like crazy to make them happen. Once they're headed in the right direction, you can add another and another. Each element of your success can become part of a system that continues on its own with ocassional guidance from you. Automate your success with good habits!

My Small Biz Thoughts Blog is dedicated to providing IT Professionals with advice and opinion to make them more successful in the ever-changing world of technology. This blog has been going since 2006 and is one of the most popular blogs in the SMB (small and medium business) space.

One of my most popular blog series is called SOP Friday - a weekly look at standard operating procedures for a successful consulting business.

When I started blogging, I did not want to give information that was widely available elsewhere. As a result, I rarely blog about technical fixes, tips, and tricks. I don't attempt to be a reporter or scoop the news sites. I don't try to be balanced and fare. These are my opinions based on twenty years of experience as an IT professional and successful business owner.

I have been podcasting for more than five years. And, again, my podcasts have been very popular. My current project is a total revamp of the SMB Community Podcast. The focus is on information you need to run your business more successfully. Product announcements, good programs to be involved in, events in our space, and more.

Seminars and Conferences

Some are on future business processes such as Cloud Computing. My SMB Online Conference is now in it's fifth year.
